tbh one reason i think religion exists is that people are scared like not just of the unknown or of death, but of themselves. people are scared of their own power. they are scared of what they will do knowing complete sovereignty over their own lives. they are scared of making their own rules, scared of doing what they enjoy without restriction, scared of feeling happiness without also feeling guilt.
